Tweeting Quantity or Quality?

In the last of our articles on using Twitter, we come to one of the most important areas namely the art of tweeting itself.

Because Twitter is so readily available from computers and mobile devices alike, the ability to post tweets any time and practically anywhere brings a whole new meaning to blogging and letting people into your lives.

From a business perspective, it’s easy to overdo things, but you need to really think about how you intend to use Twitter, some of the areas for consideration

  • An Ego Trip
  • Product Launches
  • Day to day life updates
  • Knowledge Snippets
  • Customer Support
  • Knowledge Gathering
  • Re-tweeting

We’ve seen a number of companies essentially boasting about their successes and how busy they are. In some respects we’re put off by people who say they are continually busy as if they are that busy, they’ll be too busy to take on our business.

Twitter is perfect for a marketing strategy involving product launches, working with a PR agency, they can re-tweet anything you post and off you go. Day to day updates will show the business side or you can if you so wish show the personal side to your business, that enables potential customers to see there are people behind the logo, etc.

If you’re an expert in your field or you’ve found a quaint or popular quote, tweet about what you know or find, showing knowledge will certainly help people form a positive opinion of you and your company and coupled with a Blog can really make your company shine.

Social Media has clearly shown that Word of Mouth is a very powerful Marketing Tool, but due to it’s openness, it also gives a voice to those who received bad customer service or need to find out more about what you do. By allowing your Twitter account to become a branch of Customer Service you’re using a trusted channel that really is wide open. People will guage your company not just on what you post, but how you dealt with the questions and the people themselves. Use Twitter as a postive customer support tool and train your staff how to use it effectively.

Knowledge gathering is where we see the power of Social Media in action, ask questions of your followers, then engage in conversation with them, answer their questions too. This way, your followers are more likely to stay with you and many may end up becoming customers.

Finally in this section, you’ll find great tweets from the people you follow, build relationships by re-tweeting their posts and we’re confident you’ll find them re-tweeting your posts too, that way your network will grow and you’ll gain respect.

Using Twitter as a Social Media tool opens many more aspects than what we’ve touched on above, the tip of the iceberg as it were, but engage, engage, engage.

What’s a typical strategy we could employ as standard?

We can propose the following Tweet strategy

  • Quote Tweet
  • Quote Tweet
  • Snippet of Information (A Tip)
  • Quote Tweet
  • Link to your home page or landing page

As you can see at our base level, we’re giving away useful snippets of information before we post the hard sell. This way we’re not overbearing our followers with Links and we’re using our snippets to try and gain more followers.

Using this as a base for a daily approach to Tweeting, we can then tweet inbetween these with re-tweets, links to blog posts and answers and shout-outs to other Twitter users.

So the key here is Quality over Quantity, sending out 100 tweets a day will turn people away quickly, a small number of useful snippets with some engagement is a perfect way to build your follower base and then hopefully the power of word of mouth and referrals from Social Media will certainly increase. Enjoy!
